Fenix Energy Name + Logo
When you're setting out to change the world with amazingly efficient GSHE (ground source heat exchange) systems, you may want to avoid a name with the word 'con' in it.
E-Cubed was asked to formulate a new name for this engineering firm. The founders had invented a patent-pending system that's the first to allow ground source heat exchange technology to be deployed into existing city high-rises. Geo-exchange systems function as rechargeable batteries by capturing waste heat from normal building HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) operation and storing it underground to take advantage of the temperature differential above and below ground.
We generated over 300 possible names and of these final 9, Fēnix was selected.
The name references both the re-energization of existing buildings in dense urban contexts as well as renewability of energy exchange. It also was sharply different from other green energy companies.
For the logo, I worked to find type that was bold, and energetic. We wanted something that looked technical but hadn't been over-used. I contacted Font Bureau, and licensed Vonness Black Extended Italic. It was perfect for this application. Limited licensing means it hasn't had a lot of exposure, and its unique 'F' and 'E' distinguish it from typical heavy sans-serifs. I added a macron over the 'E'.
After some initial explorations we developed an exciting visual language made of of lighting effects. Find out more about Fēnix Energy.
